KEYNOTE TOPICS
A view of where technology is heading from someone who helped set its course. Wozniak brings the perspective of an inventor who turned computing from a hobbyist pursuit into a consumer industry.
The mindset behind the elegant, single-handed designs of the Apple I and Apple II. Wozniak shows how engineering discipline and creative play combine to produce genuine breakthroughs.
A living link to the origin of the personal computer, from the person who engineered it. Wozniak connects that founding moment to the technologies reshaping our lives today.
The conviction, inherited from his father, that engineers can change the way of life for millions. Wozniak, a lifelong supporter of hands-on learning, speaks directly to those who will build what comes next.
Steve "Woz" Wozniak co-founded Apple and engineered the machines that launched the personal computer revolution. Working largely alone, he designed the Apple I and then the Apple II — the first commercially successful personal computer, and one of the last mass-produced machines designed in nearly every detail by a single person. His combination of engineering elegance and practical vision helped turn computing from a hobbyist pursuit into a consumer industry, and laid the technical foundation on which Apple became one of the most valuable companies in the world.
Listed as the sole inventor on four early Apple patents, Wozniak returned to UC Berkeley to complete his engineering degree and has since received ten honorary doctorates. In 1985 he and Steve Jobs received the National Medal of Technology from the President of the United States, and in 2014 he was awarded the Hoover Medal for engineers' service to humanity. A co-founder of the Electronic Frontier Foundation and founding sponsor of the Tech Museum and the Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose, he has devoted much of his life beyond Apple to philanthropy and technology education.
