Keynote Topics:
- Blue Ocean Strategy: Making the Competition Irrelevant
Kim and Mauborgne's landmark framework shows how the most successful companies don't beat the competition — they make it irrelevant by creating new, uncontested market space. They give leaders the tools to break the value-cost trade-off and unlock new demand. - Value Innovation: Creating New Market Space
The cornerstone of their work, value innovation, shows how to pursue differentiation and low cost simultaneously rather than choosing between them — the strategic move that opens up "blue oceans" of new growth. - Blue Ocean Shift: From Red Ocean to Blue
Drawing on their bestseller, they offer a step-by-step process any organization can use to move from bloody "red ocean" competition to the open water of new market creation — with the tools to systematically minimize risk along the way. - Beyond Disruption: Nondisruptive Creation
Their most recent work challenges the assumption that innovation must displace existing industries and jobs. They show how leaders can achieve growth through "nondisruptive creation" — building new markets without the social cost of disruption.
speaker Bio:
Chan Kim and Renée Mauborgne are the creators of Blue Ocean Strategy — one of the most influential business ideas of the modern era — and professors of strategy at INSEAD, where they co-direct the INSEAD Blue Ocean Strategy Institute. Their book Blue Ocean Strategy has sold more than four million copies, been translated into a record number of languages, and is taught at nearly 3,000 universities worldwide. In 2023, Harvard Business Review honored them as two of the four leading management thinkers of its 100-year history, alongside Michael Porter and Clayton Christensen, and in 2019 Thinkers50 named them the most influential management thinkers in the world.
Partners in research for more than three decades — a collaboration that began at the University of Michigan before they moved to INSEAD — Kim and Mauborgne reshaped the language of strategy itself, coining the now-ubiquitous terms "red ocean" and "blue ocean." Their subsequent bestsellers, Blue Ocean Shift and Beyond Disruption, extended the work into a practical methodology and, most recently, into the idea of "nondisruptive creation." Their frameworks are used by companies, governments, and non-profits around the world to find new paths to profitable growth.
Summary: Signature Framework — Blue Ocean Strategy
Kim and Mauborgne's defining insight is that competing head-to-head is a losing game. Most companies fight over existing demand in a "red ocean" — markets so crowded with rivals that the water turns bloody, and growth comes only by taking share at someone else's expense. Their alternative is the "blue ocean": uncontested market space created through value innovation, where a company simultaneously raises buyer value and lowers cost, breaking the trade-off that conventional strategy treats as iron law. Unlike most strategy thinking, theirs is not about analyzing the competition better — it is about rendering the competition irrelevant by creating something new. Backed by research spanning more than a hundred years and thirty industries, and codified into systematic tools, it gives leadership audiences not just a powerful metaphor but a repeatable method for finding growth where others see none.
