scott d. anthony
Clinical Professor of Strategy at Dartmouth's Tuck School of Business, Managing Partner Emeritus of Innosight, and author of nine books on disruptive innovation.
Scott D. Anthony is one of the world's foremost authorities on navigating disruptive change. A protégé of the late Clayton Christensen — the Harvard professor who defined disruptive innovation — Anthony has spent more than two decades turning the theory of disruption into practical systems that CEOs can actually use to build new growth. He helps leaders see disruption not as a once-in-a-career threat, but as a recurring force they can prepare for and turn to their advantage.
Keynote Topics:
- How to Lead in the Most Disruptive Era in History
Disruption can show up in any industry, at any time — and the leaders who thrive are the ones prepared to respond when it does. Drawing on twenty years advising global CEOs, Anthony gives audiences a clear-eyed framework for anticipating disruptive threats, separating signal from noise, and acting with confidence amid uncertainty. The message is ultimately optimistic: walls and moats won't save you, but disciplined innovation will. - Dual Transformation: Repositioning the Core While Creating the Future
Most organizations face an impossible-seeming choice: defend today's profitable business or invest in tomorrow's uncertain growth. Based on his book Dual Transformation, Anthony shows leaders how to do both at once — repositioning the core business for resilience (Transformation A) while building a separate engine for new growth (Transformation B), and managing the link between them. A practical playbook for established companies that refuse to be disrupted. - Eat, Sleep, Innovate: Building a Culture Where Innovation Is a Habit
Getting the technology right is only a small part of transformation; the leadership and cultural parts are harder and matter more. Based on his work with organizations including Singapore's DBS Bank, Anthony reveals how to embed innovation into daily behavior — designing the routines, rituals, and "behavior-enabling artifacts" (BEANs) that make creativity systematic rather than serendipitous. - Epic Disruptions: The Hidden Patterns Behind History's Greatest Breakthroughs
From gunpowder and the printing press to McDonald's, the iPhone, and generative AI, history's most transformative innovations follow recognizable patterns. Drawing on his latest book, Anthony traces those patterns across centuries — revealing how disruption actually happens, why the next big thing often looks like a "bad" idea, and what it all means as AI promises another wave of transformation.
speaker Bio:
Scott D. Anthony is a Clinical Professor of Strategy at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College, where he focuses on the adaptive challenges of disruptive change and teaches the popular electives "Leading Disruptive Change" and "Horizon Scanning." His career began with a two-year apprenticeship under Clayton Christensen, the Harvard Business School legend widely regarded as the father of disruptive innovation.
In 2003, Anthony joined the early leadership team of Innosight, the growth-strategy consultancy Christensen co-founded. He helped build the firm's U.S. operations, then relocated to Singapore in 2010 to lead its expansion across Asia-Pacific. From 2012 to 2018 he served as Innosight's elected Managing Partner, a period in which the firm tripled its revenue and was acquired by Huron in 2017. Today he remains Managing Partner Emeritus and a Senior Advisor to the firm. During his Singapore years, he advised on DBS Bank's digital transformation, served on the Committee on the Future Economy advising Singapore's Minister of Finance, and sat on the boards of MediaCorp and NTUC LearningHub.
Anthony has written nine books, most recently Epic Disruptions: 11 Innovations That Shaped Our Modern World (Harvard Business Review Press, 2025), included in JPMorgan's "Next List" of cutting-edge books. His earlier works include Eat, Sleep, Innovate (2020), Dual Transformation (2017), and The First Mile, collectively shaping how a generation of leaders thinks about innovation and growth.
He has been ranked multiple times among the world's most influential management thinkers by Thinkers50, which awarded him its 2017 Innovation Award. He holds a BA in economics, summa cum laude, from Dartmouth College, an MBA with high distinction from Harvard Business School, where he was a Baker Scholar, and an Executive Master in Change from INSEAD. He has delivered keynotes across six continents, advising leaders at organizations including Procter & Gamble, GE, and Johnson & Johnson.
Summary: Anthony's Approach to Disruption
What sets Anthony apart is a conviction that disruption is not chaos to be feared but a pattern to be understood — and therefore managed. The recurring principles across his nine books and two decades of practice:
- Disruption is recurring, not exceptional. It shows up in every industry eventually. Treating it as a once-in-a-career emergency is the mistake; building the capability to respond is the advantage.
- Transform on two fronts at once. Survival requires repositioning today's core business and creating tomorrow's growth engine in parallel — what Anthony calls Dual Transformation.
- The first mile is where ideas die. Less than one percent of ideas launched by big companies have real impact — and the failure is in the process, not the idea. De-risking that earliest stage is decisive.
- Culture beats technology. Getting the technology right is the small part; the leadership and behavioral parts are where transformation actually succeeds or fails.
- The next big thing often looks like a "bad" idea. History's epic disruptions were underestimated at birth. Recognizing that pattern is how leaders avoid dismissing the breakthrough in front of them.
