KEYNOTE TOPICS
Examine how education, skills, services and innovation shape India’s economic opportunity beyond headline investment commitments.
Explore the connections between banking systems, monetary conditions and the decisions facing investors and business leaders.
Consider how economic change affects local opportunity and the institutional foundations of prosperity.
Raghuram Rajan examines the relationship between finance, institutions and economic development. He is the Katherine Dusak Miller Distinguished Service Professor of Finance at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and served as Governor of the Reserve Bank of India from 2013 to 2016. Earlier, he was Chief Economist and Director of Research at the International Monetary Fund.
His work connects decisions inside financial systems with their consequences for companies and communities. Fault Lines explores vulnerabilities beneath the global economy; The Third Pillar examines the balance between markets, the state and community. With Rohit Lamba, he co-authored Breaking the Mould, which considers how India can develop prosperity through human capital, services and innovation.
For an investment summit or leadership forum, Rajan brings a useful challenge to growth narratives built chiefly around the scale of announced projects. His perspective opens questions about skills, institutions, competition and who can participate in the resulting opportunity. For financial audiences, his research and policy experience provide a foundation for examining monetary conditions, banking resilience and economic risk.
The most relevant brief gives him a substantive economic question to examine: India’s development choices, the relationship between finance and growth, or the conditions under which investment benefits a wider economy.
