WHY AFSHIN
What Afshin brings to the room.
Connects geopolitics with the flows that actually shape markets — trade, capital, energy, cities, demographics and the rising weight of the world beyond Europe and North America.
KEYNOTE TOPICS
Ideas built for the stage.
South-South trade and the rise of the emerging world
Globalisation, connectivity and the new Silk Roads
The Middle East, Asia and the geopolitics of energy
Hub cities, demographics and the future of global growth
Afshin Molavi is a geopolitical risk analyst, author and Senior Fellow at the Foreign Policy Institute of the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. He is the founder of the Emerging World newsletter and co-founder of emerge85 Lab, an initiative exploring the economic, political and cultural forces reshaping Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East.
A former Reuters correspondent and Washington Post journalist, Molavi has reported and worked across the Middle East and has also served at the International Finance Corporation, the private-sector arm of the World Bank, and as an adviser to Oxford Analytica. His work focuses on South-South trade, emerging-market multinationals, global hub cities, energy geopolitics and the new routes connecting the world’s growth markets.
Molavi brings a traveller’s eye and a strategist’s frame to the stage. He combines economic evidence, history and first-hand observation to show executive audiences where geopolitical risk and commercial opportunity overlap — and why the familiar West-versus-China map misses much of the global economy.
