Sir Demis Hassabis is the co-founder and CEO of Google DeepMind and one of the most consequential figures in artificial intelligence. In 2024, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry — together with his DeepMind colleague John Jumper — for AlphaFold2, an AI model that solved a 50-year grand challenge by predicting the three-dimensional structure of virtually all 200 million known proteins. Within four years, AlphaFold2 has been used by more than two million researchers across 190 countries, transforming fields from drug discovery to environmental science.

A chess prodigy who reached master level at thirteen and an award-winning games developer in his teens, Hassabis went on to earn a PhD in cognitive neuroscience at University College London before founding DeepMind in 2010. After Google acquired the company in 2014, DeepMind achieved a landmark moment in AI history when its AlphaGo system defeated the world's leading Go player in 2016. His research has been cited over 200,000 times, and he is a Fellow of the Royal Society and the Royal Academy of Engineering. He was knighted in 2024.
