What Demis brings
The Nobel laureate behind AlphaFold, who set out to build ever more capable AI and use it to answer humanity's deepest scientific questions. Hassabis offers a view of artificial intelligence as the most powerful instrument science has ever had — from the person building it.
Keynote topics
The Path to Artificial General Intelligence (AGI)
Where general-purpose AI is heading, from the co-founder of the lab at the frontier of the field. Hassabis explains what AGI would mean, how close it is, and why he sees it as a tool to accelerate discovery across every field of science.
AI as a Tool for Scientific Discovery
How AI is becoming an instrument that can solve problems science has struggled with for decades — the thesis AlphaFold first proved. Hassabis makes the case for AI not as a replacement for human insight, but as its most powerful amplifier.
How AI Is Transforming Medicine and Drug Discovery
The real-world impact of AI on biology, from a system already used by more than two million researchers across 190 countries. Hassabis shows how predicting protein structures is reshaping drug discovery and the future of medicine.
The Future of AI and Humanity
A clear-eyed look at what the most consequential technology of our time asks of us. Hassabis, who fuses neuroscience and machine learning in pursuit of AGI, addresses both the promise and the responsibility of building it.
Sir Demis Hassabis is the co-founder and CEO of Google DeepMind and one of the most consequential figures in artificial intelligence. In 2024, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry — together with his DeepMind colleague John Jumper — for AlphaFold2, an AI model that solved a 50-year grand challenge by predicting the three-dimensional structure of virtually all 200 million known proteins. Within four years, AlphaFold2 has been used by more than two million researchers across 190 countries, transforming fields from drug discovery to environmental science.
A chess prodigy who reached master level at thirteen and an award-winning games developer in his teens, Hassabis went on to earn a PhD in cognitive neuroscience at University College London before founding DeepMind in 2010. After Google acquired the company in 2014, DeepMind achieved a landmark moment in AI history when its AlphaGo system defeated the world's leading Go player in 2016. His research has been cited over 200,000 times, and he is a Fellow of the Royal Society and the Royal Academy of Engineering. He was knighted in 2024.
