KEYNOTE TOPICS
How leaders identify bad friction, remove organisational obstacles and protect the safeguards that still matter.
How to spread excellence without diluting the practices, behaviour and judgement that made it valuable.
Evidence-based principles for leading with competence, kindness, accountability and respect for people’s time.
Robert I. Sutton is an organisational psychologist, Stanford Professor Emeritus and bestselling author whose work focuses on leadership, organisational change, innovation and workplace dynamics. He has served on the Stanford faculty since 1983 and helped found the Stanford d.school, the Stanford Technology Ventures Program and the Center for Work, Technology and Organization.
His latest book with Huggy Rao, The Friction Project, distils seven years of research into how organisations accumulate obstacles that exhaust employees, frustrate customers and slow execution. Sutton’s central distinction is deliberately practical: good leaders remove the friction that blocks useful work while preserving the friction that prevents harmful or reckless action.
Sutton has delivered more than 200 keynotes in more than 20 countries. His stage style combines evidence, memorable language and interactive exercises that help audiences identify the rules, meetings, approvals and habits that make their own organisations harder to navigate than they need to be.
