Rohit Bhargava is the founder of The Non-Obvious Company and co-founder of Ideapress Publishing. An author and former advertising strategist, he studies emerging patterns in behaviour, culture and business, translating them into a practice of observation and interpretation. His current work also considers how people retain originality and independent judgment as AI makes familiar answers easier to produce.
Bhargava built his earlier career at Leo Burnett and Ogilvy, working across brands, industries and international markets. That experience helped shape his approach to finding connections between developments that initially appear unrelated. He studied business and English at Emory University and has taught storytelling and marketing at Georgetown University. His books include Non-Obvious Megatrends, The Future Normal with Henry Coutinho-Mason, and Non-Obvious Thinking with Ben duPont.
His distinctive contribution is to treat trend awareness as a learnable discipline. The task begins with curiosity, exposure to unfamiliar perspectives and the ability to separate an interesting detail from a meaningful pattern. His SIFT approach provides a structure for developing that habit. The work has evolved from identifying trends towards helping people improve the thinking that makes useful observations possible in the first place.
For executives, this offers a way to examine change without reducing strategy to a list of predictions. Marketing teams can use the same perspective to question category conventions and understand emerging expectations. Across both settings, Bhargava focuses attention on the relationship between seeing more broadly, interpreting more carefully and finding ideas that competitors relying on the same information may miss.
